Abstract

The CITES treaty and associated legal and policy instruments for the countries in focus for this study has been analysed. The present study has the following objectives : 1. To analyse the general implementation of CITES in South Asia with special reference to India 2. To study the impact CITES trade regulation and implementation on the status of trade and trade related threats with these species i.e. Star tortoise, Red Sanders, Tigers 3. To examine the Gaps , if any in the CITES implementation with respect to intent and outcome and the reason thereof 4. To derive common lessons, if any to improve national engagements with MEAs like CITES
